In short: these books share car care and car buying know-how, for education. Use common sense, follow the safety notes and your owner's manual, and ask a qualified mechanic when in doubt.
Education, not professional advice
Nothing on this site, in our videos, emails or books is mechanical, legal, financial, insurance or other professional advice. Cars differ by make, model and year. Where your owner's manual or a qualified mechanic says something different, follow them.
Working on a car
Never work under a car held up only by a jack: use jack stands on level, solid ground. Never open a hot radiator or coolant cap. Never run an engine in a closed garage. Brakes, steering, fuel systems, airbags and anything structural should be checked and repaired by a qualified shop. If a warning light flashes or the car feels unsafe, stop driving and get it checked.
Buying, selling and financing
Laws on car sales, titles, warranties, financing and returns differ by state. There is no general federal right to return a car. Check your state's rules with your DMV or attorney general's office, and get legal advice for any contract dispute.
Prices, savings and results
Repair costs, prices and every saving on this site are estimates for typical US drivers, based on typical prices. They are not a promise. Your savings depend on your car, your area's prices and what you actually do.
